MaxRoam, Qik, blogger, twitter meetup in Barcelona

The highlight of our flying visit to the Mobile World Congress were the people we met. Its HARD to meet ANYONE when there are 10’s of thousands of people milling about. But the best place to meet people is at a smallish party. Especially when that party is full of the people you’ve been wanting to meet for ages.

So a huge thanks to Pat Phelan of Maxroam and Bhaskar Roy of Qik for organising and hosting this party. It was brilliant.

Pat’s said it all here

And when you get there check out what a brilliant service Qik is for capturing a video party straight to the web. Live streaming from you phone. It’s the killer app for the nokia N95 or any phone that takes half-decent video.

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, 2008

The Mobile World Conference is like a gargantuan music festival with hundreds of stages and less mud. And more dark blue and gray suits than a dry cleaner would see in a lifetime.

Nubiq, Sentry Wireless and Mobanode:
First stop was to see the companies working the EI stand. And Man. Were they working it. Ciaran Bradley of Sentry Wireless had over 30 meetings set up over the 4 days, plus a VERY heavy networking schedule on top of that. They also had a nice set up where they broadcast a little brochure video to anyone in the vicinity with their bluetooth turned on. This was a great idea and LOADS of people picked up the vids. And you know they will watch them too. So much more effective than paper brochures that, in fairness, people just end up binning. The kit was supplied by Shane McAllister from MobaNode. 30 seconds with Shane and you just know MobaNode is going to be one of the select companies on the EI stand next year.

Another stand out company was Nubiq. Grace is THE demo queen. Great depth and breadth of knowledge of the company’s offerings and operations AND exceptionally good at selling the benefits.

Enterprise Ireland excel:
Also have to mention Enterprise Ireland. Very impressed. They come in for some slagging from time to time. But there are clearly some great, even brilliant people working there. Their showcase stand impressed everyone who saw it. Really. Hats off to the guys from EI. Outstandingly well done. Great location. Looked and worked brilliantly. Really inviting. Totally blew away the UK and Canadian efforts. You can see that they are staying ahead of the pack by actively learning each year and applying what they’ve learnt. A real credit to the organisation and those involved.
